Great Work

Thanks again to everyone who helped out at the Work Day.

A lot of time was spent preparing and tidying up for the Wedding, which, unless you are reading this on the website, has already happened.

A lot of man-hours were spent cutting and tidying the hedge, which had grown far too much in recent years. Even a chainsaw was employed to cut down the hedge, which is really just trees, big trees, with trunks that need a chainsaw! Anyway the hedge was taken down to a uniform level, and will be kept in trim from now on.

More branches, twigs and whatnot were removed, this time over the Church Hall roof, where some overgrowing had been occurring.

Sticking to the subject of trees, there was an almost unbelievable number of black bags full of leaves collected from around the site. A good, fat, trailer full was taken away, a lot of time was spent sorting this out.

Other tidying around the grounds was done, with the cleaning, sweeping, and weeding of pathways.

More weeding was also done as the front garden was worked on, with much trimming, and the addition of some new flowers. I don’t know what they’re called, but they look lovely and have 2 colours.

Some concreting work was also successfully undertaken, with the widening of the playgroup area path, near the fire exit of the youth Centre, along with some more by the gate. This was greatly needed as the grass and mud had worn away, and it’s a vast improvement for the playgroup kids who can now go full circle on their little bikes and cars without having to take a detour.

Along with a lot of leaves, another whole trailer-load of rubbish was taken away; including yet another old piano (that’s 3 in a year!) that had been prepared beforehand (yes its heavy). We even got some money for our old boilers!

So yet another big thankyou to those who helped out.

Another Work Day will be happening in the near future!

Sunday Mornings

Mystical – Prophetic – Creative

A couple of weeks ago we looked at a short clip from the “Saving Jesus” series where we heard Matthew Fox say (approximately):  “We need to stop our tea-cup talk about Jesus.  Jesus is often presented like a Little Bo Peep with his sheep; but he was so much more than that; he was a [...]

Christus Victor

from this blog I’ve been reading Christus Victor by Gustaf Aulén which deals with the subject of sin atonement from an historic perspective. Below are some notes I made on the book. Introduction In 1930 Dr. Gustalf Aulén delivered a series of lectures entitled “Die drei Haupttypen des Christlichen versohnungsgedankens” (Three Main Types of the [...]

The Real Spiritual Life

This is adapted from this blog entry. What I found interesting and poignant is in the comment at the end (from the same blog). I never met a Christian I never met a Christian who… …reads the bible enough …prays enough …spends long enough having a quiet times …or feels they have enough QT’s anyway [...]
